DESCRIPTION:\nOn Tuesday the 8th October, Downtown in Business invites you to join us in Manchester from 12:00 – 2:30pm for a dynamic Leaders Lunch packed full of insights, networking and discussion.  \n\n\n\nLead by Leader of Manchester City Council Bev Craig, this Leaders Lunch event will bring together professionals from across the Manchester City region and beyond to discuss the changes and challenges facing the region and look forward to the future.\n\n\n\nTopic:\n\n\n\nThe evolution of the Manchester City region the changes and challenges facing it and looking forward to the future.\n\n\n\nOver recent years, the Manchester City region has found itself coming up against some significant challenges brought about by changes in the economy and in consumer choices and habits.\n\n\n\nAs Council Leader, Bev Craig’s main focus has been on Manchester’s continuing ambitious COVID recovery, the importance of building a more inclusive and sustainable economy, for example she has championed the City’s continuing work to become a Living Wage City.\n\n\n\nHer vast experience makes her the perfect choice to speak on the most pressing issues facing the region today and how various sectors can work to overcome challenges.\n\n\n\nWith the right approach and support, Downtown firmly believes that businesses and individuals can overcome the challenges facing them in today’s climate and work together to create a better more prosperous city for all.\n\n\n\nSpeakers address:\n\n\n\nAs Manchester City Council Leader, Bev will share her in-depth insight on the most important issues and changes happening within the Manchester City Region and how these developments are impacting on different businesses and sectors as well as individuals. \n\n\n\nDrawing on her experience working not only as council leader but also as Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s portfolio lead for Economy, Business & Inclusive Growth, she will provide a unique and empowering insight into the support needed for both businesses operating in Greater Manchester and those working within it to thrive in our ever-changing economy.\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker:\n\n\n\nShe graduated from Manchester University in 2007 with a degree in politics and modern history. After graduating from the University of Manchester she began her career in local government, later gaining a postgraduate in Local Government Management from Warwick Business School and a MA in public policy and governance from UoM, both whilst working full time. She has held a range of jobs across local government, higher education and working for the trade union UNISON leading on social care.\n\n\n\nShe was appointed as deputy leader of the council in May 2021 and then elected Leader of Manchester City Council in December 2021.\n\n\n\nBefore this, she was first elected in 2011 as a Burnage Councillor. She held a range of responsibilities on Manchester City Council, including serving for 4 years as Executive Member for Adult Social Care, Health and Wellbeing and inclusion services, during which time she led the Manchester’s COVID health and community response, manging the crisis and focusing on a more equal recovery.\n\n\n\nShe also serves as Deputy chair of Manchester Health and Care Commissioning overseeing resources, capital programmes, social value and digital. She was also and co-chair of the Manchester Local Care Organisation.\n\n\n\nBenefits of Attending:\n\n\n\n\nHear Insights from an Industry Expert: In all her many roles, Bev has consistently championed various social issues including children and young people, equalities, housing and zero carbon.
