Alma de Cuba launches new terrace and Cuban inspired menus

One of Liverpool’s most iconic bar and restaurants, Alma de Cuba, has transformed its outdoor terrace and created new Cuban-inspired menus to put it on the city’s summer hot list.

The beautiful former St Peter’s church building on Seel Street, famous for its altar petal drop, now has a revamped garden which has its own CBD Cocktails, frozen cocktail and spritz menu.

Drinkers can soak up the sun with frozen daiquiris, margaritas, watermelon sugar martinis and fruity cocktail pitchers which are perfect for sharing.

And there are plenty of fun props and gorgeous backdrops so you never run out of Insta inspiration.

Alma de Cuba is already Liverpool’s most unique venue, and its new management team have exciting plans to develop its Cuban identity and bring something fresh and different to the city centre.

General manager Craig Cavanagh says: “This is the New Testament for Alma. It’s so stunning, like nowhere else in Liverpool, and we love it so that’s why we’re really keen to see where we can take it.

“There’s investment being made into the building and the business, the staff are fantastic and we’re 100% committed to making Alma a very special place. We believe the potential is limitless and we want the whole city to be involved.”

The terrace next to the old church has been completely renovated and redecorated, with floral walls and colourful Bacardi heritage Havana-style posters, new outdoor furniture and parasols, and branded Jacquart champagne ice buckets on the tables.

“We’ve also got some little funky bits that people can have some fun with, so white fedoras, fans and sunglasses on the tables. There are little photo opportunities everywhere for customers to come and enjoy.”

With the option of table service or access to the main bar, the garden – which is open until 2am – also has a DJ booth and Craig says they’re lining up regular live entertainment out there, with a mix of DJs and singers.

Inside, Alma has new Cuban-inspired, flavour-packed small plates and mains such as shrimp creole, chilli garlic prawns, Cuban meatballs and yukka fries.

There’s a new cocktail menu too which reflects the theme and the team is working with Cuban rum specialists Bacardi on drinks ideas for the main bar and terrace.

Fans of the spectacular bar and restaurant don’t need to worry that it’s all-change though – the legendary petal drop on the altar with samba fiesta on Saturday nights is definitely staying, and so are some of Alma’s most popular carnival nights like Seven Sins on Fridays and Voodoo on Saturdays.

The gospel choir will still be raising the roof on the last Sunday of the month, and there’s now also a Bottomless Soul Brunch on Sundays alongside the traditional Sunday roast menu.

“Alma de Cuba is one of Liverpool’s best-loved venues and it’s given so much to the city over the years. We felt it deserved to be shown a bit of love so now the ideas are flowing and it’s getting the attention it deserves,” says Craig.
