Liverpool City Region (LCR) Careers Hub is expanding and developing the level of support to improve young people’s career development in schools and colleges across the region.

This expansion of the hub follows the success of the Wave 3 bid earlier this year. With this vital funding from the Department of Education and nationally coordinated support from the Careers and Enterprise Company, this will allow the hub to build on the success of Wave 1 and Wave 2 Careers Hubs.

The hub provides support to young people to ensure they have skills, knowledge and confidence to succeed in their chosen future pathway, they work closely with Careers Leaders to develop a strategic plan to improve careers education and help prepare young people for the world of work.

Now supporting all 134 schools and colleges across the city region, the Careers Hub has expanded to a team of 13 with seven partner organisations which now include the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Shaping Futures.

Launching next week is ‘LCR Creating Careers’ an ongoing programme of activities designed to inspire young people through live interactive broadcasts delivered by local employers showcasing the interesting career pathways that our region has to offer. This programme runs throughout the academic year and aimed at both students and teachers.

The launch of this programme takes place from the 5-9 October 2020, and kicks off with ‘My Week of Work’ – showcasing 16 employers from different sectors such as Health & Life Sciences, Maritime, Professional Services, Construction and Digital. Companies taking part include The Walton Centre, The Wates Group, law firm – Hill Dickinson and Cruise Liverpool.

Over the coming academic year as the programme continues the hub will be finding new ways to host events from virtual tours and pre-recorded videos to live discussions and Q&A sessions.

Gill Walsh, Careers Hub Lead for Growth Platform, said:

“We’re starting the new academic year supporting all Liverpool City Region schools and colleges and it’s now, more than ever, so important for us all to engage with careers education.  We want our young people to have the opportunity to develop their learning and understanding of the world of work and ensure they are fully equipped to make the right choices for their future.

“Employers have shown a real enthusiasm to support the Careers Hub, to help our young people understand the world of work and inspire their future career aspirations.”
