Discovering Birmingham; a guide to the city is launched at Foyles bookstore in Grand Central today (Monday 21st May). The guide was last produced back in 2000, as after this the scaling down and ultimately the closure of the city’s tourist information centres made the publication unviable. Today information centres are reopening and Discovering Birmingham has been completely updated as the city looks to welcome increasing numbers of leisure and business visitors.
Discovering Birmingham gives a feel for the origins of Birmingham, considers the city you can experience today and where we are heading. It includes things to see and do, both in the centre and around the city and a city centre map. Discovering Birmingham has been produced to the highest standards and is well priced at just £5, with discounts for organisations using the book in bulk to promote their role in the city.
Jonathan Berg, who produced the book, and is also behind the best-selling coffee-table book Positively Birmingham comments: “There is a real need for a high impact introduction to Birmingham. I hope that it will be as useful to local people as it is to those visiting the city.” “Pretty much all the images have had to be updated as the city has change so much and we have included pages looking at some of the twentieth Century buildings in the city!”
