A major milestone has been reached for one of the North West’s most ambitious commercial developments, with plans submitted for the first phase of MIX MANCHESTER – the airport-based science, innovation and manufacturing campus set to create up to 8,000 jobs.
The hybrid planning application, lodged with Manchester City Council, covers more than 1.6 million sq ft of development and signals significant momentum behind the transformational scheme.
Designed to position Manchester at the forefront of advanced manufacturing, innovation and R&D, phase one includes more than 70,000 sq ft of flexible mid-tech workspace for pioneering businesses, alongside high-quality amenity space.
The proposals also feature a 1,500-space mobility hub, cycle facilities, commercial units, upgraded infrastructure and public realm designed to support the growth of a world-class employment destination.
Outline approval is also being sought for a further 1.1 million sq ft of manufacturing, office, laboratory, hotel and research space as part of the wider masterplan.
Once complete, the 60-acre development will deliver up to 2 million sq ft of employment space, reinforcing Manchester’s status as a leading UK hub for innovation, technology and advanced industry.
The project is being delivered through a partnership between Manchester Airports Group, Manchester City Council, Greater Manchester Pension Fund, and Beijing Construction Engineering Group, underlining the scale of ambition behind the scheme.
With first units expected from late 2027, MIX MANCHESTER is set to become one of the region’s most significant employment and investment opportunities of the decade.
