MP calls for 'Domestic Cabinet' to support Brexit Ministers

Downtown in Business hosted a special Fringe event at the Conservative Party conference last week with Tatton MP Esther McVey.

Covering a range of issues affecting business, the woman who succeeded former chancellor George Osborne in the Cheshire seat said that the government was, rightly, committed to the Northern Powerhouse. She also called on the PM to consider establishing a ‘domestic cabinet’ to undertake the day-to-day business of government, as cabinet ministers get increasingly side-tracked by the Brexit negotiations.

McVey, who has previously owned her own businesses, and had a career in the media, was optimistic about the economy, but suggested that we needed to be thinking about and planning for the changing world of work, redesigning education and training to fit the needs of the twenty-first century, and championing enterprise and entrepreneurs more enthusiastically.
