A huge thank you to those of you who have taken the opportunity to support Liverpool University Hospitals Charity this afternoon at the Downtown in Business Women in Business Awards 2022 by donating; we are so grateful to be here, and for your support. Not only does your generosity enable us to raise awareness of the work that our hospital charity does to support our local community, our staff and our patients at the hospital, it also gives us the opportunity to raise funds to help ensure that our patients receive the best possible care and experience.

I am sure that all of you here today are aware of the immense pressures that hospitals nationally have faced over the past 2 years during the pandemic, and will continue to face in the future. Our staff have worked tirelessly through a time that they have never quite experienced before, caring for a high number of patients in exceptional circumstances.  Throughout all of this, our priority has of course been to support and improve the wellbeing of our patients; however, the wellbeing of our hardworking staff has also been an important priority. During a time where patients aren’t allowed visits from loved ones, and staff are experiencing pressures like never before, our Merseyside community and beyond have pulled together to help our charity to generate an incredible amount of money to support them.

KnifeSavers

KnifeSavers was set up by trauma clinicians based at Liverpool’s Aintree hospital as a direct response to the rising incidence of knife injuries in the region. The aim of the campaign is to educate and empower everyone in Merseyside on the dangers of knife crime, and how to control major life threatening bleeding from knife wounds.

Liverpool University Hospitals Charity team are fundraising to help to fund educational community sessions and materials, and to help Knifesavers to raise awareness of a crucial service that Liverpool University Hospitals is providing to the local community, and we hope that today’s contribution will go some way towards supporting their objectives to:

  • Educate local people about Knife Crime and bleeding control
  • Purchase and distribute bleeding control medical kits around the region
  • Reduce the number of knife related deaths

As we see light at the end of the tunnel, with life as a country beginning to return to some kind of normality, Liverpool University Hospitals will continue to work tirelessly to care for our patients.  Our Liverpool Hospital’s Charity will continue to do all that we can to contribute towards the enhancement of services to help deliver exceptional care in our area.

We really do hope that you enjoy your afternoon, and once again thank you so much for your support.

We couldn’t do what we do without you.
