Downtown in Business members in Birmingham enjoyed a barnstorming contribution from Jess Phillips MP at the Park Regis Hotel on Wednesday evening.

The shadow minister for Domestic Violence & Safeguarding, who represents the Birmingham Yardley constituency, spoke at the exclusive dinner about her personal political journey, the challenges facing the Labour Party, and her optimism for the future of Birmingham.

In conversation with DIB boss Frank McKenna, Jess highlighted the innovative companies operating in the city, the forthcoming Commonwealth Games, and the impressive regeneration of the city centre, as some of her reasons for feeling more positive about Birmingham’s future than ever before.

“I felt before COVID struck that the city had momentum. It was starting to feel like it was punching its weight, and finally becoming the city we all know it can be. I am sure that we can recover that momentum once this horrible pandemic is over – and we need to be shouting from the rooftops about how great Birmingham is.”
