On Wednesday 11th June, Downtown in Business hosted another inspiring edition of our Leaders Lunch series at Stanley House, bringing together key business figures from across the region for a focused discussion on regeneration and growth in Lancashire and beyond.

We were delighted to be joined by Clare Hayward MBE, Chair of NP11, the business-led organisation that brings together the 11 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) across the North of England. Clare is a highly respected business leader and entrepreneur with over 30 years’ experience working with senior teams and boards across sectors including technology, banking, and manufacturing. She also currently sits on the board of United Utilities.

Clare offered a compelling and thought-provoking perspective on the economic opportunities and challenges facing the North, with a particular focus on Lancashire. A passionate advocate for sustainable growth and regional collaboration, Clare discussed the ongoing work of NP11 in lobbying for major infrastructure improvements, most notably, continuing efforts to revive HS2, which she stressed remains vital for improving connectivity across the North.

She also highlighted the pressing need for a more unified approach between major northern cities such as Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, and Newcastle when it comes to lobbying for transport and investment, urging leaders to move away from individual strategies and towards joined-up thinking. Clare voiced strong support for devolution and elected regional mayors, viewing them as essential to driving long-term economic transformation.

The event sparked lively conversation among attendees, with a shared focus on how the public and private sectors can work together to shape a more connected, empowered, and prosperous North.

Stay tuned for more Leaders Lunch events as we continue to bring together the North’s most influential voices shaping our region’s future.
