West Midlands passengers reminded of reduced weekend rail service

Passengers in the West Midlands are being reminded to only travel by rail if necessary tomorrow (Saturday) as industrial action continues to impact services.

With summer events and festivals taking place across the country and warm weather forecast, passengers are being urged to consider alternative methods of transport as a very limited train service will be in operation. Those services which do run will operate between 7.30am and 6.30pm only, meaning final departures for longer-distance journeys such as Birmingham-London will be mid-afternoon.

Alex Warner, chair of the Grand Railway Collaboration, representing West Midlands train operators and Network Rail, said:

“I would like to thank passengers for their patience and understanding with the limited service which has been operating throughout this week.

“A very limited service will again be running on Saturday and I strongly urge passengers to only travel if their journey is necessary and to use other modes of transport wherever possible.”

Due to planned engineering works no services will run from either Moor Street or Snow Hill stations in Birmingham on Saturday.

On Sunday morning services will start later than usual as the strike action means some trains will not be in the right places overnight. Passengers are urged to check their train is running before travelling.

Normal service on the railway is expected to resume on Monday 27 June. For up to date train times, see National Rail Enquiries.
