Grant Thornton bolsters Midlands team with new partner

Leading business and financial adviser Grant Thornton UK LLP has appointed Jon Throup as a new Transaction Advisory Services partner in the Midlands.

Leading business and financial adviser Grant Thornton UK LLP has appointed Jon Throup as a new Transaction Advisory Services (TAS) partner in the Midlands.

Jon joined the firm earlier this month and will be based at Grant Thornton’s new Birmingham office, located at 103 Colmore Row.

The appointment underlines the firm’s ambition to grow its 20-strong TAS team across the Midlands and Central region.

Jon has more than 20 years’ experience in the Midlands market, joining Grant Thornton from his previous role as Transaction Services director at a large accountancy firm in Birmingham where he delivered high-profile due diligence projects across multiple sectors and industries.

This appointment follows a successful first half of the year for Grant Thornton’s Midlands TAS team. The team advised on a number of notable transactions, including LDC’s recent investment in the innovative ed-tech firm Avantis, the sale of the Nuvias cybersecurity and networking business to PE-backed Infinigate Group AG, and acting as reporting accountant on Marshalls plc’s £535 million acquisition of Marley Group.

Jon Throup, Transactions Advisory Services partner at Grant Thornton UK LLP, said: “Grant Thornton’s Transaction Advisory Services team has proven itself time and time again to be a dynamic and innovative group that’s willing to go the extra mile for the region’s businesses. This is one of the many reasons why I’m delighted to now be playing a key role in the team, with a focus on supporting its growth and elevating it to the next level.

“While businesses are facing a number of tough challenges right now, the Midlands market is full of vibrant, creative and entrepreneurial firms that are attracting a significant amount of international and domestic interest. This means that there’s lots of activity going on in the area across a wide variety of sectors. This breadth of opportunities and requirements for our support makes it an exciting area to work in and, thanks to the wealth of skills and knowledge in our team, we can support the region’s businesses with whatever advice, information or expertise they require.”

Alex Hyde, partner and head of Grant Thornton UK LLP’s Transactions Advisory Services team across the Midlands and Central region, said: “Jon’s appointment indicates our commitment to further developing and growing what is already an award-winning team. Not only will Jon add further technical skills and expertise into the mix, but he will provide invaluable support in helping the team develop and grow moving forward.

“The supportive and people-centred culture we have at Grant Thornton is an important factor behind our success. Our agile working practices and fantastic new Birmingham office give us a great platform to deliver great client service in a flexible way which works for all our people.”
