Birmingham Airport (BHX) has developed an employability programme aimed at helping local people learn more about the range of careers available in the Aviation sector.
Attended by 30 people, the two-week course in the Airport’s Learning Hub saw the group gain a wide range of Aviation and employability skills, as well as the opportunity to secure a guaranteed interview for roles such as: Aviation Security Officer, Passenger Service Agent, Baggage Handling and Ramp Agent and further roles within the Hospitality and Retail sector at BHX.
The programme was developed in partnership with The Launch Group, which has a proven track-record of working successfully with partners in the aviation industry to design and deliver bespoke pre-employment programmes, specialist training and commercial recruitment services.
As a result of the programme, and following their interviews, several candidates were successful in progressing to the next stage of the Birmingham Airport Security Officer selection process, whilst others await results of their interviews from other employers.

One of those attending the programme, Chris Tanner, a self-confessed ‘Aviation Nut’ from nearby Ward End said:
“The overall atmosphere has been phenomenal and over the past two weeks I’ve learned so many things. I’m hoping to get one of the Aviation Security Officer roles that will be needed for the new security facility that’s being built. I hope I’ll pass the interview when it comes and be able to keep passengers at Birmingham safe in the future.”
