A landmark sustainable office building in Birmingham city centre has started to sell honey produced from its own rooftop beehives, with all proceeds going to a local charity.
After introducing two hives to its seventh floor outdoor roof terrace in 2024, 10 Brindleyplace is now home to around 60,000 bees. Following a successful harvest from the happy bees in late 2024, 80 jars of honey have been produced, still leaving enough in the hives for the bees to eat over the winter period.
The honey is now available to buy from the building’s reception.
All proceeds from the sales will be donated to Birmingham Settlement, a charity founded in 1899 and based in Ladywood, which aims to ‘tackle inequality, connecting and empowering people through action, activities, and shared learning to build and sustain wellbeing for all’.
Nick White, Director at CBRE Investment Management commented: “The beehives have been a great addition to 10 Brindleyplace’s roof terrace – they’re helping to pollinate our own flowers and plants and those in the surrounding area, and we’re also able to support one of Birmingham’s oldest charities.”
Sam Marsh, Nature & Wellbeing Centre Manager at Birmingham Settlement, commented, “Existing in an ever changing environment with new challenges, we’re always adapting the way we work and the services we provide to meet these challenges. This partnership with 10 Brindleyplace is a brilliant way to aid us to continue to support the local community in our Ladywood region.”
With a focus on three pillars of technology, sustainability and wellness, 10 Brindleyplace is the first Fitwel accredited office in Birmingham – a standard that measures occupant health and wellbeing. It is also the first workspace in Birmingham to house a uniquely designed bouldering experience.
