Love Is…

Love is in the air as Frank McKenna puts the politics on hold for a week to reflect on what he has ‘loved’ so far about 2019.

As it is the day after Valentines day, I thought I’d do something a little different this week and focus on some of the things that I’ve loved so far in 2019. Let’s face it, there isn’t much common ground and affection to be found in the world of politics at the moment, so here goes…

#1 Shoe Dog. A fantastic business book with a difference that was recommended to me by Paul Cheetham of Sedulo. This is a great read about the journey of sportswear giant Nike, written by its founder Phil Knight. A fascinating and inspirational tale that will have every business owner and entrepreneur recognising the highs and lows that we all face as we attempt to grow our companies, big or small.

#2 Space. I’ve never been massively interested in space. I’ve never watched Star Wars and I’m not a ‘Trekkie’. However, since Downtown in Business won a contract to work with the UK Space Agency this year, I have begun to appreciate the huge commercial impact the industry has and the opportunity and potential for SMEs as part of its wider supply chain. #3 London. Okay, this is a bit of a cheat, because I’ve always been a fan of our capital city. More accurately perhaps I should say ‘doing business in London’. Downtown has been hosting events in the big smoke for six months now, and we are about to go big there, connecting London to England’s core cities. If you want to get involved in Downtown’s latest adventure contact chris.mckenna@downtowninbusiness.com

#4 DM. I’m not talking about Direct Messaging, I’m talking about our fantastic new digital publication ‘Downtown Monthly’, lovingly created and produced by our wonderful communications team. Check out the latest issue here. If you want your business to feature in DM, please contactcomms@downtowninbusiness.com

#5 MIPIM. The property festival takes place next month and for the first time in over a decade yours truly is attending with other members of the Downtown team. I have been busy putting together some cracking events that I will be hosting to keep me out of trouble – but I’ll still have time to grab a coffee over there with you if you’re attending? Let me know via email frank.mckenna@downtowninbusiness.com

So, belated Happy Valentines Day. I love you all xxx
