The great and the good of the hospitality sector descended upon one of Liverpool’s finest establishments, the Hope Street Hotel, for a special DIB event during ‘Visitor Economy week’ earlier this month.

The breakfast forum focused on talent, recruitment, retention and subvention.

The forum, sponsored by the Liverpool Hospitality Association, enjoyed contributions from Stephen Hesketh, head of Savvy Group Hotels, HR expert Victoria Brown the MD of High Performance Consultancy, Elaine Bowker, Principal of the City of Liverpool College, Garth Dallas form the Good Business Festival, Bill Addy the CEO Liverpool BID Company, Laura Pye from National Museums Liverpool and the GM of the Hilton Hotel Marcus Magee.

The need to continue the momentum which has seen the city become the most popular visitor destination in the UK outside of London and Edinburgh was the key point made by panelists, with the recognition that a significant private sector contribution was required if Liverpool was to maintain its success.

Bill Addy’s call for a city- wide BID, which would generate around £5million, was supported by many in the room, whilst the need for greater collaboration across the hospitality sector was championed by Hesketh and Magee.

There was much optimism around the talent agenda with both Elaine Bowker and Victoria Brown evidencing individuals and companies who were making valuable contributions to the city region economy.

Garth Dallas and Laura Pye highlighted the importance the roles of culture and community had played in Liverpool’s success since it hosted the European Capital of Culture in 2008.
