Building society’s rainy day account makes for brighter future for cancer patients

A rainy day savings account linked to Rosemere Cancer Foundation is making for a brighter future for local cancer patients.

Furness Building Society, which offers the easy access Community Savings Account and has branches in Preston city centre and Poulton as well as in Lancaster and South Cumbria, has given the charity a donation of just over £11,000.

The amount, which is from its own funds, is based on the collective total savings held by customers, who opted to link their Community Savings Account to Rosemere Cancer Foundation from a choice of other local charities.

Sarah Waine, Marketing Communications Manager at the Furness, explained: “Our customers can choose to support Rosemere Cancer Foundation as one of a number of local good causes. Rosemere Cancer Foundation is among these good causes for its work to improve cancer treatment for patients from throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria, which is also our neighbourhood.”

With this year’s donation and over the 12 years since it launched its Rosemere Community Savings Account, Furness Building Society has given the charity a whopping £274,044.65.

Dan Hill, Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s chief officer, said: “We are immensely grateful to Furness Building Society for its continued support. Its help has benefitted hundreds of local cancer patients via a myriad of projects over the years. We cannot thank Furness Building Society and its customers, who choose to support us, enough.”

Rosemere Cancer Foundation works to bring world class cancer treatments and services to cancer patients from throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria being treated at Rosemere Cancer Centre, the region’s specialist cancer treatment and radiotherapy centre at the Royal Preston Hospital, and  also at another eight local hospital cancer units across the two counties.

The charity funds cutting-edge equipment, clinical research, staff training and innovative services and initiatives that the NHS cannot afford in order to make patients’ cancer journey more effective, comfortable and stress-free.
