The Conservative Party have retained control of Lancashire County Council – and won the Police and Crime Commissioner post from the Labour Party.

In the ‘Super Thursday’ poll last week, Labour had hoped to win back the red rose county. But on what was a good night for Boris Johnson and his party nationally, the Conservatives saw off the challenge, and gained seats from Independents and the Liberal Democrats.

Phillipa Williamson, who is a county councillor for Lancaster, has been elected as the new council leader, following the retirement of Geoff Driver. She was formerly the cabinet member for Children, Young People & Schools, and in her previous career an impressive CV includes a four- year stint as Chief Executive of the Serious Fraud Office.
