The Welding Institute Honours for Themis Apprentices and Engineering Students at Burnley College

Burnley College is celebrating after six of its dedicated Themis Apprentices and two talented Engineering students were honoured with awards from The Welding Institute.

Burnley College is celebrating after six of its dedicated Themis Apprentices and two talented Engineering students were honoured with awards from The Welding Institute.

In partnership with leading employer Graham Engineering, Nelson, the annual TWI Awards took place at Burnley’s Crow Wood Hotel & Spa Resort, where more than 300 people, enjoyed an evening of ceremony and celebration.

The six ambitious Themis at Burnley College Apprentices who won awards are:

  • Georgina Cross (21), from Bacup, who is employed at Paradigm Precision, Burnley, and currently working towards a HNC in Mechanical Production
  • Ella Winterbottom (19), from Clitheroe, who is employed at Paradigm Precision, Burnley, and currently working towards a HNC in Mechanical Production
  • Alex Bolt (19), from Burnley, who is employed at Emerson and Renwick Ltd, Church, and is a Level 3 Apprentice Engineering Machinist
  • Luke Harris (19), from Barrow, who is employed at Emerson and Renwick Ltd, Church, and is a Level 3 Apprentice Engineering Machinist
  • Jon Mattocks (21), from Cliviger, who is employed at CED Fabrications Ltd, Accrington, and is a Level 3 Apprentice in Fabrication and Welding
  • Bradley Parfitt (23), from Brierfield, who is employed at Castle Sheet Metal, Sabden, and is a Level 3 Apprentice in Fabrication and Welding.

And the two motivated students on Advanced Vocational courses in Fabrication and Welding are:

  • Cerys Ormerod (20), from Burnley, a former pupil at Unity College
  • Callum Robinson (18), from Burnley, a former pupil at Coal Clough Academy

Head of Development and Training at Graham Engineering Ian Fraser, event organiser and compere on the evening, said:

“To be part of such a huge event in the Engineering world is great. We’re happy to have helped host this event on behalf of TWI and to recognise all of these highly-skilled and determined Apprentices and Students for their outstanding work in Engineering.”

Head of the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Excellence at Burnley College Hannah Cutler added:

“Congratulations to our exceptional Themis Apprentices and Burnley College students on their amazing achievements. It is great to see them recognised for their dedication, their outstanding skills and knowledge and their innovation.

“We encourage all our Apprentices and students to be the very best they can be and back them every step of the way through expert training and tuition and individual support.”

Dave Holmes, Manufacturing Director at BAE Systems and President of TWI, who started his career as an Apprentice, attended the prestigious event, handing out the awards alongside other representatives from TWI.
