AVISON YOUNG DATA GIVES CITY CAUSE FOR OPTIMISM

Downtown in Business Liverpool hosted a webinar with Avison Young earlier this week to consider the results of its most recent UK Cities Recovery Index.

The Index uses a variety of high-frequency indicators to track key aspects of city life and includes detailed analysis and insights into the rate and trajectory of recovery following the impact caused by COVID-19. By monitoring the way in which the pandemic impacts different aspects of the economy and society almost in real-time, Avison Young is able to identify early signs of any significant shift in recent trends. The National Recovery Index is correlated with the more traditional measure of gross domestic product (GDP). Exploring the relationship between these two figures, we have produced an estimate forecast of GDP based on the performance of the National Recovery Index. View the GDP comparator here

The local mobility map illustrates movement trends across local authority districts over time. Using data from Google Mobility Reports, we can see how movement to retail and workplace locations have changed on a fortnightly basis since February, relative to a baseline level recorded between 3rd January and 6th February 2020. The map allows us to establish how mobility has been affected in those areas of the country that have seen tighter levels of restrictions. Furthermore, the map highlights the differentiation between major cities, suburban locations, and those areas which have benefitted, at least relatively, from the changes to our everyday life – from where we go on holiday, to where we work and shop – that we have seen during the pandemic.
