Avison Young awarded for helping inspire the next generation

Strategic real estate advisor Avison Young has been awarded patron status by Elevate EBP for its work helping young people to identify careers in real estate and coach them for real world interview experiences.

Strategic real estate advisor Avison Young has been awarded patron status by Elevate EBP for its work helping young people to identify careers in real estate and coach them for real world interview experiences.

Over the past 12 months, the Avison Young team has worked with six schools across the Liverpool City Region on a range of events, both virtual and in person, to share information on the broad range of roles that are available in the sector. Following each event, the schools compiled their feedback and ranked Avison Young as ‘highly regarded’ by both teachers and students, earning them patron status.

Elevate EBP is a not-for-profit organisation that helps to prepare young people for the world of work, by linking business with over 140 schools and colleges across the Liverpool City Region. Events that Avison Young have supported include ‘meet the professionals’, a ‘day in the life of a surveyor’ and mock interviews.

Remi Smith, senior surveyor at Avison Young office, led the initiative from the firm’s Liverpool office. She said: “There’s such a vast array of careers available within real estate and many of the students that we worked with hadn’t heard of some of them before, which creates obvious barriers to entry. There are skills shortages across the industry and it’s important that we engage with the next generation so that they can help fill those gaps, while also finding fulfilling careers for themselves.

“The whole experience was really rewarding. The students in the schools we worked with were very engaged and eager to know more, especially as some had missed out on valuable work experience placements due to lockdowns. We did our best to make the students feel comfortable so that they could get the most out of the experience and hopefully we have inspired some young people to consider jobs that they might never have previously known about.”

Laura Grigsby, head of education and learning at Elevate EBP, said: “Elevate EBP nurtures the talents of young people in the Liverpool City Region by introducing them to local businesses and professionals, raising awareness of career opportunities and skills needed for entering the workplace. We do this through a variety of career activities.

“The support of organisations like Avison Young is invaluable, with Remi being an ambassador for her profession and sector. Thank you for being a role model and inspiration to the students and schools/colleges you have worked with. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Remi and Avison Young in the future.”
