P J Livesey – A Family Business at the Heart of Heritage Regeneration
P J Livesey was founded in 1979 by husband-and-wife team Peter and Dorothea Livesey, who set out to save remarkable historic buildings by giving them new futures as homes. Over more than four decades, the company has built its reputation on the sensitive restoration of landmark properties – transforming historic buildings into distinctive places to live while preserving the character that makes them special.
Today, P J Livesey remains very much a family business. Peter and Dorothea continue to work tirelessly within the company, while their daughter Georgina Lynch leads the next generation as Managing Director – championing heritage-led regeneration, retrofit over demolition, and design that respects both past and future.
That philosophy runs through the group’s current and forthcoming projects. King’s Gate in Macclesfield is reimagining the former King’s School as a new community of characterful homes, combining beautifully converted heritage buildings with carefully designed new properties. In St James Park, Southsea, the former St James Hospital is being sensitively restored and complemented by energy-efficient new homes, set within mature parkland close to the heart of Southsea. And at The Retreat, Parbold, a historic Victorian villa and former convent is being brought back to life as a collection of homes, alongside eco-conscious new build properties that share the same crafted feel.
Across all of these sites – and others in the pipeline – the focus is the same: heritage regeneration that creates long-term value for communities, protects embodied carbon and historic fabric, and offers people the chance to “own a little piece of history” in a home designed for modern living
