£50m Innovation Boost Positions West Midlands at the Forefront of UK Growth

The West Midlands has received a major boost to its innovation economy following the announcement of a £50m Local Innovation Partnerships Fund by Richard Parker. The landmark investment, the largest innovation deal secured by the region to date, will support a new generation of pioneering businesses developing cutting-edge technologies designed to improve lives, create high-quality jobs, and drive long-term economic growth.

The fund will focus on strengthening the region’s world-class capabilities across advanced manufacturing, health and life sciences, and creative immersive technologies. By bringing together business leaders, researchers, and public sector partners, the initiative aims to accelerate the journey from research to commercialisation, ensuring that bold ideas are transformed into real-world solutions that deliver tangible impact.

Backed by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and UK Research and Innovation, the programme is expected to unlock a further £190m in private investment, create or safeguard around 2,000 jobs, and contribute an estimated £700m to the regional economy. It builds on the West Midlands’ growing reputation as a hub for innovation, reinforcing its role at the forefront of the UK’s industrial and technological future.

For Downtown in Business, this announcement reinforces the importance of continued collaboration between the public and private sectors to unlock regional potential. As DIB continues to champion investment, innovation, and economic growth across the UK’s core cities, opportunities such as this will be key to supporting members, driving business engagement, and ensuring regions like the West Midlands remain competitive on both a national and global stage.
