The Bourse continue to celebrate recycling success with B&M Waste Services

Having worked together to introduce a new dedicated bin store for waste, B&M Waste Services have continued to assist The Bourse in achieving 100% diversion of waste from landfill through processing the waste as refuse derived fuel and recovering the energy from this waste at a combined heat and power station, which results in green energy as opposed to waste going to landfill.

The Bourse comprises 50,000 sq ft of high quality office and retail space over three buildings, overlooking a central courtyard. This landmark site incorporates 20 tenants including multi-national office occupiers and retailers such as William Hill, Evans Cycles, The Private Office, JLT, Robert Half and Allport Cargo Services and two convenience food operators. Each of the buildings, Equity House, Sterling House and Bond House, has its own designated entrance with a multi-storey car park to the rear.

Carbon Neutral B&M Waste Services operate across Leeds and the Greater West Yorkshire region, encouraging companies to segregate waste and avoid landfill at all costs. The company are Carbon Neutral to PAS 2060 standards, meaning their entire operation, not just their fleet, work to a comprehensive carbon management plan to reduce their carbon impact, and what can’t be reduced is offset through supporting environmental projects and planting trees across the UK.

James Murdock, Account Manager for B&M Waste said “The uptake of the new waste strategy and use of the new dedicated bin store has been fantastic. We encourage other Property management companies to consider their waste strategy, as it’s something that, when done correctly, can be a real tick in the box for the tenants.”

Sue Hargreaves, FM Manager for The Bourse commented: “We required a regular service with tight time restrictions due to our city centre location in Leeds. B&M Waste have delivered this and we are now looking at other ways we can work with them to further encourage our tenants to recycle their waste. Our Account Manager, James, is very responsive and supportive when we have any queries or additional requirements. I urge other businesses to review their waste strategy and think about recycling and landfill diversion. It is an opportunity that can help to influence prospective occupiers as well as reducing the building’s impact on our environment.”
