LJMU Extend Sustainable Waste Management Contract with B&M Waste

B&M Waste Services are delighted to announce the extension of a sustainable waste management contract with Liverpool John Moores University.

The successful partnership has been in place since 2015 and will now continue for at least another two years.
The zero to landfill, carbon neutral total waste solution covers all of the university’s campuses and buildings across the city.

Martin Christie, Environmental Manager at LJMU, said: “We have made significant strides in the past three years in relation to our sustainability objectives and B&M have proactively supported our waste and recycling agenda. We look forward to continuing along the same lines while receiving a very reliable level of service.”

In 2017, LJMU diverted over 625 tonnes of waste away from landfill. 60% was recycled, with the remaining residual general and food waste fully recovered for energy use.

This equated to over 470,000kg of indirect carbon emission savings, the equivalent of saving 330 trees and more than 175 thousand car miles.

David Carter, B&M’s Senior Customer Relations Manager, said: “LJMU are committed to reducing their environmental impact and it is fantastic news that they have decided to continue working with us.”

LJMU are part of a growing portfolio of higher education establishments who choose B&M to help them improve their environmental performance.
