Businesses encouraged to nominate best student employees for national award

Local businesses who employ students are being invited to nominate their best student staff for a national award.

Local businesses who employ students are being invited to nominate their best student staff for a national award.

The annual National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES) Student Employee of the Year Awards recognise and promote the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who effectively combine part-time work with their study commitments.

Employers may nominate their student worker because they feel they go above and beyond what is expected of them, because they have made a positive commercial impact or because they have demonstrated strong leadership skills. In total, there are six categories that student employees can be nominated for.

Carol Sanderson, Head of the UCLan Careers Service, said: “We know that many students work incredibly hard juggling part-time jobs alongside their studies in order to earn extra money and gain work related transferable skills. Just this month we are supporting a local company to recruit 200 UCLan students and we expect there will be no problem in finding enough students who are interested.

“This award provides employers with the ideal opportunity to thank and recognise their student staff by putting them forward for an award that will of course provide a great boost to their CVs.”

UCLan international hospitality management student Kelly-Marie Staunton won the 2017 National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES) Student Employee of the Year Award after her employer at the time, Hilton Hotel, nominated her for the prestigious accolade. She was crowned the winner for working two full time jobs simultaneously at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate Hotel and Daffodil Hotel and Spa, Cumbia, as well as studying full-time at UCLan.

Entry for the 2019 Student Employee of the Year Award is now open. Employees can learn more about the awards criteria and nominate worthy student staff online at http://www.nases.org/student-employee-of-the-year.html#  until the 29 March.
