PM+M, the chartered accountancy, business advisory and wealth management group, has renamed its Blackburn headquarters ‘New Century House’ in celebration of its 100th birthday.

PM+M, the chartered accountancy, business advisory and wealth management group, has renamed its Blackburn headquarters ‘New Century House’ in celebration of its 100th birthday.

The business, which was founded in Blackburn by Richard Porter, John Matthews and Walter Hindle Marsden in 1919, has always been based in the town and now also has operations in Burnley and Bury. PM+M moved to its current offices on Greenbank Technology Park in 2010. It had previously been based in the town centre.

The renaming of the office follows an extensive refurbishment programme and is, according Jane Parry – PM+M’s managing partner: “A strong statement of intent that points to the future.”

The firm’s centenary year has also seen a number of other milestones including being named as one of the UK’s top 100 firms by Accountancy Age magazine, achieving its highest team headcount ever, and having its gold Investors in People status renewed.

Jane commented: “I believe that the secret to our success has been our unwavering ability to adapt. We never stand still and we don’t take things for granted. We are always looking for ways to grow and develop but without ever compromising on the high levels of service that we pride ourselves on.”

PM+M has remained fully independent and now employs 112 people with an annual turnover of £6.5m. The firm grew by 15% in the last year.

Jane said: “Being an independent business is so important to us and is at the centre of how we operate and our culture. It means that we are able to steer the firm in a way that we feel is right – both for our team and our clients. We don’t want to just be a service provider; we want to add value, to help solve problems and help businesses to grow. Our mantra is clear: We thrive when our clients succeed.”

PM+M works with clients of all sizes across the UK, as well as internationally. However, over their 100-year history, the firm has always had strong Blackburn roots and is proud to of their relationships with locally renowned businesses, including acting for Blackburn Rovers since its inception.

Jane and the rest of the senior management team are also committed to providing the best possible internal training and development programmes.

Jane commented: “PM+M has a strong retention rate and we are constantly investing in our people because we know the success of the firm is based on the talents of our team. Encouraging, mentoring them and helping them be the best they can be is so important to us.”

PM+M is also a keen supporter of a number of local charities, including Blackburn Youth Zone and East Lancashire Hospice.

Jane concluded: “The renaming of New Century House is really all about demonstrating that we aim to be as successful in our second 100 years as we have been in our first.
