Combining their Seasonal BBQ and Meat Carnival with The Gin Festival this will be a brilliant day of delicious drinks and mouth-watering BBQ.

This is the third year of these two successful festivals showcasing the best of Birmingham’s street food and independent bars. Raise a juniper glass to the heavens and a sticky fist to the sky to salute this beginning of summer celebrations!

The festival celebrates local BBQ heroes and pitmasters, alongside the UK’s first cocktail bar and meadery! There will also be retro games and DJs to keep the day feeling epic. Although fingers are crossed for sunny weather, they have assured that the Digbeth space is covered so people can celebrate rain or shine!

The festival will be at Quantum in Digbeth, based in the historical JQ. Customers and locals can enjoy 1000 Trades on the ground floor and The Vanguard (a cocktail bar upstairs on level three). The bar was set up by local bartender and entrepreneur Samuel Boulton and is set up in a beautiful old Victorian workshop. The Gin menu features an array of creative cocktails to suit all tastes and specialises in a lip-smacking, but forgotten, beverage – Mead. Mead is created by fermenting honey with water, alongside various fruits, spices, grains and hops. It is the perfect summer drink. They offer a chic, rustic interior with impeccable service.

Alongside the bar the festival promises some of the best British BBQ traders serving the tastiest dishes for carnivorous fans! Established traders alongside emerging independents serve finger-licking and soul-satisfying dishes so good you’ll be back for seconds, and even thirds! Vegan and Vegetarians do not worry! All traders will be showcasing a bespoke non-meat dish, offering you lots of options.

Some of the traders to keep an eye out for:

The Smoke Truck is trading for the first time at Taste and Liquor and specialises in tender smoked BBQ that falls off the bone. They focus on bringing out the natural flavour profiles by cooking their meats low and slow over hickory and oak, adding just enough spices without taking away from the smoke from the dish!

Veeru Da Dhaba are the award-winning team who recently won Brum Wing Fest 2019. Fresh off their win they will be firing up their grills once again for an Indian Summer Feast. Hand rubbed dishes with a blend of Indian spices, slowly marinated and tenderly BBQ-ed. They also offer cooling yoghurts and masala chips on the side. All of their menu is created in house including sides, salad dressings, sauces, and pickles. Their menu is delicious and based upon seasonality and availability, promising that all their food will taste unbelievably fresh!

Jamrock offers Caribbean fare. Welcoming Summer with their spicy jerk, the star of the BBQ scene. Once you’ve tasted their fiery smoked jerk chicken, sweet with allspice and fragrant with island thyme, you won’t believe you waited this long. Their vanilla fried dumplings are also fantastic and well worth a try.

Little Urban BBQ is known for having some of the best smoked meats in Birmingham. Imagine a blend of St Louis, KC, Memphis and a hint of Texas – his flavours will excite your taste buds with delicious comfort food. They also offer meat substitutes including their pulled jackfruit, indistinguishable from pulled pork.

Naughty Little Things have created a remarkable and original BBQ menu that is constantly experimenting. They cook in small batches and serve in a tapas style box for that fresh quality and celebration of taste. Their homemade rubs make every bite taste even better than the last. Their mix of different meats and sides ensures that every bite is different and original.

Super Fry Guys offer Belgian frites, the most beloved snack in all of Brussels. This is the first time they have come to a Taste and Liquor festival. Belgian Frites are known for being superior to all other fries (so say the Super Fry Guys). They are twice-fried, perfectly crispy and covered in a wide range of toppings. They offer lots of tasty cheeses, vegetables, as well as tasty meat scraps.

The Dough Bar is their dessert offering and is a fantastic example of last but not least. They are continuing the raw cookie revolution in Birmingham with their instagrammable puddings. Bowls filled with rich chocolate milk and ice cream, and piled high with donuts, raw cookie dough and more including brownies, pretzels, and biscuits. These are puddings for people with an appetite! There are also no eggs in the mixture so these are completely safe to eat!

Advance tickets start from £7, costing more at the door, and the ticket is for entry only with food and drink sold separately. The event runs from 12.00pm to 8.00pm.

Dishes and flavours to be announced on their Facebook wall leading up to the event so for any more information visit their Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/317436542456253
