The University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLan) School of Medicine has received a major boost after receiving accreditation from the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS).
This prestigious quality kitemark recognises the high standards being set across the institution’s postgraduate provision.
Professor Cathy Jackson, Executive Dean of UCLan’s Faculty of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences and Head of the School of Medicine, said: “This accreditation is a fantastic recognition for all the hard work we’ve done to go from being the newest medical school in the country to being established on the medical school map.
“To have the world-renowned RCS praise the vision we have for the future is wonderful and it proves the wide variety of courses our School offers, across our three centres in Preston, Burnley and Westlakes, are highly commended by the medical profession.”
UCLan currently offers 20 postgraduate courses, ranging from continuous professional development short courses to doctorates.
The RCS supports the development of university level programmes which enhance the knowledge and skills underpinning evidence-based clinical practice and research in surgery.
To gain this accreditation, the RCS reviewed documents and materials, and conducted a panel visit.
Salim Nazir, Head of Quality Assurance and Accreditation at the RCS, said: “In the course of our accreditation visits, the clinical reviewers and Quality Assurance Team were impressed by the overall high quality of the application, the excellent facilities and the passion of the faculty. We look forward to our growing relationship with UCLan and supporting your vision and aspirations as a Medical School.”
The RCS accreditation is valid for three years.
