Ecology consultants, RammSanderson has been appointed onto a framework of suppliers to Severn Trent Water (STW) and Hafren Dyfrdwy (HD). The company has also had its contract with Western Power Distribution extended.

The STW & HD appointment means that the company is approved to supply ecological and arboricultural services on STW & HD projects for up to the next three years as part of the AMP 7 programme.

STW has announced that it will invest more than £6bn between 2020 and 2025 on new and existing assets like pipes, treatment works and reservoirs. It currently provides over eight million people across the Midlands, from the outskirts of Sheffield, down to Bristol, and into north and mid-Wales region with approximately 2 billion litres of fresh, clean drinking water every day.

These plans also include ambitions to improve biodiversity throughout the region, including planting more than 1.3 million trees, establishing new wildflower meadows and restoring moorland, and restoring bog and peatland, all of which will help fight climate change, contribute to biodiversity net gain and protect water supplies.

Commenting on the appointment, Director Anthony Mellor, who leads the company’s Stafford office said, “In light of the recent coronavirus outbreak and its effect on the economy, we are really delighted with this news. As our work takes place outdoors we can comply with social distancing rules; so whilst we can still go on site to carry out surveys for our clients on essential construction projects, this news and the prospect of regular assignments in the future is the kind of stability we need. It will help speed recovery when lock down measures can be lifted.”

He added, “This appointment comes following increased success providing services to the utilities sector. After 12 months supporting Western Power Distribution, our contract with them has also been extended for a further 12 months to assist in delivering their programme of cable diversion works.”
