Food for thought at Harvest Festival

Leading homeless charity, SIFA Fireside, joins forces with top Birmingham restaurant, Opus, in a unique collaboration. This brings communities together to support those most vulnerable in our city at Harvest Festival.

SIFA Fireside provides services for over 3,000 homeless and vulnerable adults each year, including a daily drop-in service for immediate practical support, including hot meals. Harvest Festival is an age-old tradition which brings people together to mark the importance of food; it provides the ideal opportunity for locals to rally together to donate food parcels to faith groups and charities.

This year, SIFA Fireside want to do something special for their clients and has joined forces with Opus restaurant and Chef Director Ben Ternent, to create a unique set of nutritious recipes to be cooked and served at the charity’s Drop In centre.

Carly Jones, SIFA Fireside CEO explains: “When Ben and the team at Opus offered to help us with a new menu, we jumped at the opportunity and created an exciting new project that everyone can get involved in.  This Harvest Festival, we are still asking people to donate food, but they can download six delicious and nutritious recipes from a top Brummie chef and donate or cover the cost of the ingredients.”

Working closely with local schools and the wider community, the Harvest Festival 2020 project gives a new way for people of all ages to get involved; either by giving the recipe ingredients to the charity directly or by donating the funds for them to be purchased.

Opus Chef Director, Ben Ternent, added: “We’ve worked with SIFA Fireside for over three years now and regularly cook for them so we know what would and wouldn’t work for clients. We wanted to create balanced options, keeping the ingredients simple making it easy for supporters join in and donate ingredients or money.”

Anyone who wants to get involved or donate, can download the recipe pack or visit the donation page at: www.sifafireside.co.uk
