North West-based, full-service brand and communications agency, Agent, has launched a new campaign calling for old devices such as laptops, tablets, mobile phones and desktops to be donated, to support people across the region.
Agent ‘TechAway’ has been launched in response to a vital issue facing people who cannot afford kit. With current lockdown restrictions in place, children and young people are learning from home as schools and colleges have been forced to close and provide teaching virtually, and many adults are looking to reskill, re-train or change careers, much of which is now being done online. In most cases, this requires people to have access to a laptop, tablet or desktop.
However, more than a third of households do not have ownership of a laptop, desktop or tablet at home and despite assurances from the Government, 80% fewer computers have been made available than originally promised.
With its TechAway campaign, Agent hopes to bridge this gap, by donating tech to charities, social enterprises and directly to those in need.
Paul Corcoran, CEO of Agent, said:
“No one should be at a disadvantage when it comes to access to technology and we passionately believe that everyone deserves an equal opportunity to fulfil their potential, whatever their circumstances.
“In a time of national crisis, the public and private sectors must come together to solve this problem and offer to help in any way possible. Through this campaign, we’re calling for people to share with us their unused tech, so that we can help those who need it most.”
This campaign follows the success of Agent’s festive-giving campaign ‘All you read is love’, which saw the agency give away more than £10,000 worth of books to children and young people across the Liverpool City Region.
