Climate change and what we can do to help are top of the agenda at a free University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) conference.

The event, which will showcase research on climate change and waste management from within UCLan’s School of Engineering, takes place online tomorrow, Tuesday, and is available to all.

It will feature a range of presentations and discussions describing research, opportunities for collaboration as well as business support linked to climate change and waste management at both a local and international scale.

The four research themes up for discussion are Waste and Resource Management, Agriculture, Engineering Solutions for Sustainability and Energy Generation. They will span topics such as sustainable crop production, project engagement opportunities to reduce carbon footprint in Lancashire, sustainability in building and alternative fuels.

As well as listening to the wide range of speakers, online attendees will also be able to submit questions for discussion by the presenters.

Organiser Professor Ian Sherrington, Director of UCLan’s Jost Institute for Tribotechnology, said: “We rely on governments to use legislation to drive large scale change to reduce global warming and waste, but a responsibility falls on all of us to play our own part.

“Here at the UCLan we are doing our best to help people and business to understand what part they can play in helping to avoid further damage to our global ecosystem.”

The event is taking place ahead of the United Nations forthcoming Conference of the Parties (COP) 26 Conference, which takes place in Glasgow between 31 October and 12 November.

Tickets and full details of the programme are available from Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cop26-satellite-event-engineering-transition-to-net-zero-and-sustainability-tickets-179839062477 until 8.30am tomorrow. Attendees have the option to view specific presentations or attend all day.
