Downtown Manchester in Business hosted an exclusive dinner on Wednesday (13th February) evening with Greater Manchester’s first ‘night tsar’ Sacha Lord.

Sacha is well known for his famous Warehouse Project club nights and Parklife, The UK’s largest metropolitan festival. (If you’re planning on going this year, be quick as they have sold over 75,000 tickets in just two weeks)

Last night, however, Sacha attended the Malmaison wearing his night-time economy hat to address senior decision makers from the Downtown network. He spoke openly about some of the challenges Greater Manchester has which included transport, safety for night time workers and the success of the first ‘Safety Zone’ to name a few.

Sacha commented ‘It costs seven hundred pounds when one person is admitted to A&E and the Safety Zone cost just six hundred pounds. This is certainly something we will look to roll out, not just in the city centre but towns across the whole of GM’

Greg Maguire of Revolucion De Cuba pressed Sacha on zero-hour contracts and the problem with a tips being added to the bottom line of a large percentage of venues ‘This a real issue we have, not only in our region but across the UK. We will be pushing for more transparency from hospitality venues to advise customers exactly what percentage is going where’ Mark Clinton from Refuge was highlighted by a few guests and Sacha to be doing great things on this issue.

Chair for the evening, Andy McIntyre commented ‘It was a joy to be in conversation with Sacha this evening. He gave some real honest insights for the guests and something I am sure Chris and the team at Downtown Manchester will follow up on’
