VSI and strategic partner Downtown in Business were delighted to welcome Kevin Roberts, the former Chief Executive of global media and marketing giant Saatchi and Saatchi and author of ‘64 Shots: Leadership in a Crazy World’ for a leadership masterclass at the Salford Business School at the University of Salford.

The hour and a half long session looked at human qualities to understand the skills, character and responsibilities that make a true leader. As described by Roberts, “Industries, companies, and entire societies are being reset at record pace. Falling behind or getting ahead in life is an intense high-speed contest”- and no team wants to compete in this contest without strong leadership.

Roberts has always had a passion for sport, gaining invaluable experience serving on the boards of both New Zealand Football and the New Zealand Rugby Football Union. While the focus of the discussion by Roberts is leadership and power relations in the sporting sector, parallels can easily be drawn between leadership on the field and in the office. Drawing on the difference in approaches used by a leader and a manager, Roberts has skilfully pin pointed how building a winning team will ultimately increase workforce production through trust, guidance, and recognition.

Roberts first introduced to VSI’s Master’s Degree in Sporting Directorship four years ago. To read more about VSI’s Master’s Degree in Sporting Directorship, click here: https://sportingdirector.com/
