Tuesday evening saw leaders from across the construction sector come together at the Liverpool Malmaison to hear from Liverpool City Region Mayor, Steve Rotheram, Leader of Liverpool City Council, Liam Robinson and Mindflow CEO, Trevor Steven on how the sector must work together to reduce suicide rates and improve mental health.
Supported by Downtown in Business and hosted by DIB CEO and Mindflow Trustee, Frank McKenna, the event provided an opportunity for organisations to learn more about the Mental Health Charter and its key principles.
Led by Trevor Steven, the Charter has been developed by industry leaders and frontline workers and focuses on long-term, systemic change through practical actions, leadership commitment, and culture shift, rather than one-off initiatives.
The Charter provides a clear, practical framework to help construction companies embed mental health best practice into everyday operations, making wellbeing as visible and embedded as physical safety on site.
Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, said:
“Construction is a key to our city’s growth and development and currently we have over 330,000 people working in the sector, of this a staggering 83% will experience mental health issues and we can’t just stand by and do nothing about it. Mindflow’s Charter provides a simple but effective framework for the industry and with everyone’s support of this, we can move things in the right direction, working towards the zero suicide alliance.
Liam Robinson, Leader of Liverpool City Council added his support to Mindflow’s initiative:
“There is going to be great deal of construction projects within the city over the next few years and let’s all work together as an industry to ensure that the hands that build our amazing city are truly looked after and Mindflow’s Mental Health Charter can be the catalyst to achieve this.”
Trevor Steven, CEO of Mindflow added:
“The Mindflow Mental Health Charter is free for organisations to sign up to and is supported by a structured implementation process. Companies commit to a set of principles and are guided through practical steps to embed mental health into leadership, site practices, training, and culture, supported by our resources and team.”
