Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands, joined Downtown members for an exclusive lunch at Fazenda (Thursday 14th October), the Colmore Row restaurant that fuses gaúcho traditions and rodizio dining in opulent surroundings.

Conversation ranged across Mr Street’s re-election earlier this year, Levelling Up, COVID recovery and the forthcoming budget. The former John Lewis boss encouraged more people experienced in business to step forward for political office.

Guests at the lunch event, chaired by Kevin Johnson of Urban Communications, shared their recent experiences of returning from the pandemic including recruitment issues.

The Mayor set out what he is seeking next for the region in terms of devolution, including more control over skills and training. Mr Street also revealed some of his techniques for lobbying ministers and their advisers.
