Local employment specialists Steps To Work and Starting Point Recruitment are rounding up support for the grand opening of community engaged boxing club, Box Smart Elite.

The launch event for Box Smart Elite, an amateur and professional boxing club in Walsall, is free for the public to attend and will take place on Saturday 22nd July from 11am-3pm.

Box Smart Elite is a community driven boxing club that works with people of all ages, genders, and races, to help tackle issues such as racism, knife crime, gang culture, and other difficulties regularly challenging local communities.

Since its inception over 12 months ago, Box Smart Elite has become one of the leading boxing clubs in the country, with its boxers securing numerous national and international titles. Several have even gone on to represent their country, such as local boxer Aaron Bowen who was selected to represent England on home ground at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Steps To Work and Starting Point Recruitment have backed the boxing club over the past year, seeing it transform the lives of local people. The organisations share similar values, supporting local unemployed residents to build their confidence and gain the skills to obtain secure employment and financial stability.

The charities are now rounding up support for the grand opening event, which is open to anyone in the local Walsall community. The event will include photo opportunities with boxing stars, special guest appearances from local heroes, a meet and greet with boxers from 12-1pm, competitions to win prizes, and free refreshments.

Prof. Paul Cadman, Chief Executive Officer at Steps To Work, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the grand opening of Box Smart Elite, a club which strives to transform the lives of local people and provide them with a brighter future.

“As a charity, we recognise that there are multiple barriers that people within our community face to securing meaningful and financially rewarding employment. We provide support by giving them the skills and opportunities to secure their dream job, and that’s why we are firmly in favour of Box Smart Elite’s mission. It has been a pleasure to support their growth through our partnership, and we look forward to the many successes to come.”

Shiney Singh, Owner of Box Smart Elite and England Talent Pathway Coach, added: “I am very excited that we are officially opening Box Smart Elite on 22nd July. The team of people I have supporting me have put a lot of work and effort in over the last 12 months to help me get the gym up and running.

“Walsall is a truly diverse area, and I feel it is important to offer people in the community a safe space to train, connect with others and learn new skills, no matter their age, religion, cultural background or gender. We’re a non-profit gym, so we’re not here to make money. Instead, we’re here to support our community and provide opportunities for people to train and come to a safe space.

“I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to our sponsors and donors and look forward to celebrating our future success with them.”

Steps To Work and Starting Point Recruitment are sponsors of Box Smart Elite, alongside AproDerm, Joshua Tree 108, Seavers, SMART, and Bescott Lodge Care Home.
