I have missed many things over the past few months, like everyone. Seeing family and friends, attending Downtown events, nipping my local pub for a pint, and eating out. I was delighted to be able to visit the Malmaison in Liverpool on Sunday with the family for their new-look Sunday Roast, and we were not disappointed.

I was able to make a booking online easily, requesting the necessary highchair for my youngest daughter to save me chasing her around the restaurant the whole afternoon.

On arrival, one-way systems were noticeable to enable us all to keep social distancing and we were greeted pleasantly by our host for the day and seated. On past visits, we have been able to enjoy their Chefs Table of unlimited starters, but due to current guidelines they have now opted for an impressive three-course plated menu, which you can view here.

I opted for the Oak smoked salmon carpaccio to start, and Roast grass-fed sirloin, horseradish cream for my main. The meat was pink as requested and served with thyme & rosemary Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, green beans, tender stem broccoli, glazed carrots, and delicious homemade gravy. I don’t usually opt for a dessert, but the sticky toffee pudding looked too appealing when I spotted a fellow diner tucking in across the restaurant.

The hospitality sector has been hard this year, so huge credit to the Mal team. The food, service and atmosphere in the restaurant were brilliant. Fortunately, the weather was on our side too, so we were able to walk along Liverpool’s fabulous waterfront, just on the Mal’s doorstep.

To make a booking you can visit the Malmaison website here I can’t recommend it highly enough.
