Liverpool’s Baltic District is about to welcome a new foodie destination with the launch of New Bird Kitchen (NBK) — a grab-and-go spot where creativity, community, and quality food come first.
Opening its doors at 7:30am on Tuesday 30th September, NBK is the brainchild of celebrity stylist Lorraine McCulloch and film and tv costume designer Jan Simpson. Drawing on their shared backgrounds in the creative industries, the lifelong friends are bringing that same passion and flair to food, building a business rooted in sustainability, local partnerships, and social impact that will run alongside their styling and costume design businesses.
The menu champions high-quality ingredients — organic where possible, free-range, nitrate-free, and seed-oil-free — alongside a thoughtful drinks offering that includes fairtrade Costa Rican coffee, local teas, matcha, hojicha, and kombucha. From nourishing breakfasts to satisfying lunches, NBK menu includes:
- Overnight oats, toasted sourdough, and fresh sandwiches
- Wholesome salads, protein puffed quinoa bites, home-baked cookies, and cakes
- Pre-ordered single or sharing charcuterie and cheese boxes featuring deli meats, cheeses, pickles, olives, seasonal fruits, chutney, and focaccia or crackers
- Grab-and-go breakfast boxes for those on the move
“We believe food is more than fuel; it’s about connection, creativity, and community,” said co-founder Lorraine McCulloch. “With NBK, we want to make high-quality food both accessible and impactful, supporting local suppliers and creating opportunities within Liverpool.”
Located in a container kitchen at 61 New Bird Street, right in the heart of the Baltic Triangle, NBK was made possible through the support of local culture leaders Jayne Casey and Eric Gooden of District, who provided the space to bring Lorraine and Jan’s vision to life.
Beyond serving great food, NBK is committed to creating local jobs, nurturing young culinary talent, and working closely with regional farmers and producers. Looking ahead, the team plans to host events, collaborations, and community initiatives that further establish NBK as a hub for sustainable, creative dining in Liverpool.
New Bird Kitchen will open Tuesday-Friday, from 7.30am to 2.30pm. Daily updates can be found on the NBK Instagram @newbirdkitchen
NBK isn’t just about feeding people — it’s about feeding the Baltic community.
