Downtown in Business hosted an event with the shadow business minister, Bill Esterson, earlier this week, with members from across the Northwest enjoying the ‘Leaders Lunch’ at one of Lancashire’s leading spa hotels, the Dunkenhalgh.
Mr Esterson, who is also the MP for Sefton Central, presented Labour’s industrial strategy to the group, and outlined how, in government, his party would be looking to develop strong partnerships and engagement with the private sector.
He was particularly focussed on the opportunities the net zero and decarbonisation agenda can offer in terms of economic growth – with many parts of the region well placed to take advantage of the ‘green growth’ ambitions that the UK has.
DIB chief executive Frank McKenna chaired the event and said afterwards:
“It is always positive when we are able to get our members in a room with senior politicians and decision-makers – not just for us to listen to them, but for business owners to feedback to them.
“Bill was impressed with the quality of the contributions he heard from a range of sectors within the room, and similarly those who attended will have taken a lot away from the event.”
