New Look, New Mal

Downtown in Business Managing Director, Chris McKenna gives his thoughts on Malmaison Liverpool’s recent refurbishment.

Downtown in Business have worked with the Malmaison, Liverpool for as long as I can remember and we have hosted business lunches, dinners, forums and after show party’s late into the night. I have also used the hotel on numerous social occasions including birthdays and wedding celebrations.

Situated on Princes Dock, the hotel has a perfect view of the cruise liner terminal directly opposite, the stunning Liver Building to the left and the under-construction Bramley Moore Dock to the right. With the newly refurbed ground floor which includes the hotel lobby, bar, and restaurant, the views inside match that of the aesthetically pleasing city skyline.

Since the refurb, I have visited twice. Once for an evening meal for two on a Saturday night and once for a Downtown in Business Leaders Lunch for over forty delegates.

Traditionally, I wouldn’t choose to eat at a hotel restaurant unless on a business trip but have enjoyed visiting the Mal for Sunday lunch and evening meals with friends in the past. The transformation of the bar and restaurant almost makes you forget that you’re in a hotel and they have opened the space up making it much lighter than the old-style look. This made the atmosphere far more enjoyable with a bustling bar and busy restaurant.

What hasn’t changed is the quality of food and service. From the moment we arrived the service was spot on, giving us plenty of recommendations from both the cocktail and food menu.

My second visit was with over forty of our members for a lunch. With only an allocated time slot of two hours and a speaker to address the audience, the team at the Mal managed to swiftly have everyone well fed and watered without making us feel rushed.

Whether you are wanting a place for an after-work drink, family celebration, corporate event, or place to stay and play whilst in Liverpool, I can’t recommend the Malmaison enough.
