Liverpool-based mechanical and electrical firm, Steven Hunt Associates, has launched a new initiative to halve its greenhouse gas emissions before 2030 and achieve net zero before 2050. The project comes as part of Steven Hunt Associates’ continued investment into its ESG strategy and shows how the business is adapting traditional engineering processes to meet their sustainability commitments.
Steven Hunt Associates’ objective is to monitor and reduce its carbon footprint and improve sustainability across the business, exceeding both industry guidelines and its previous saving across the business. The business will also continue to publish its Carbon Management Plan in full and align its implementation with all future projects.
In response to national and international climate change, some of its initiatives also include the continued further development of its Carbon Working Group – who report on its delivery on an annual basis as more measurements and metrics for carbon measurement emerge – the continued implementation of a comprehensive Carbon Management Plan, further investment into renewable energy, retaining its 5-star Green Achiever award and building on the 18.7 tonnes CO2e it reduced in 2022 and continue to disclose its progress on an annual basis.
In addition, Steven Hunt Associates works closely with the community to reduce its carbon footprint including conducting an energy, procurement and waste audit, monitoring and reducing energy consumption across its sites, and recording and minimising its CO2 emissions from both its business and fleet vehicles. Steven Hunt Associates is also dedicated to continuous improvement and plays an active part in the SME Climate Commitment, which helps to significantly reduce waste and benefits both the business and the climate.
From large multi-million pound developments to small-scale projects and everything in-between, Steven Hunt Associates boasts a strong client portfolio across the public and private sectors and is therefore in a unique position to make great strides towards reducing its own greenhouse gas emissions, reaching net zero, and minimising its impact on the environment by 2030.
Neil Baines, managing director, said:
“At Steven Hunt Associates, we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously and so it goes without saying that I am immensely proud to launch this new initiative as part of our further investment into halving our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030 and achieving net zero before 2050. In order to build on the progress we have made so far, we encourage our employees to voice their opinions and take an active role in developing our carbon management plan which is testament not only to our reputation in the sector, but also our aim to continuously improve rather than simply comply with targets.”
