Aintree University Hospital is appealing for donations of toiletries to support the hundreds of patients each month who find themselves in hospital following a traumatic injury.
Patients arrive at the Major Trauma Unit from across Cheshire and Merseyside, following a trauma such as falling from a ladder, a car accident or they’ve been injured playing sport. They have no time to pack a bag and collect toiletries. Some are just visiting the area and have no one to bring things in, others maybe struggling financially or are homeless.
The NHS can only provide a small bar of soap so Liverpool University Hospitals Charity is coordinating donations of products and funds to make sure patients have nice toiletries to make them feel clean and cared for.
If individuals or companies could donate any of the following items, it would make a real difference to the 300 patients a month who find themselves in hospital with traumatic injuries:
- Shower Gel
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Bubble Bath
- Roll on deodorant
- Razors
- Shaving foam
Steph Massey, Assistant Director of Nursing, Division of Surgery at Aintree explains: “We are a busy trauma Unit that cares for patients across the region and we want to provide the best possible care we can. Wellbeing is a key factor in the recovery process and we all know that a relaxing bath or the feeling of clean hair makes us feel better. Using nice smelling products that do the job well makes a real difference.
“Our staff have been bringing items in from home but we’re now asking for support from the amazing Merseyside community. If there are any businesses, retailers or corporates out there that can help out we’d be very grateful. We would of course welcome any donations. Individuals can drop off at our hospital charity office in the Royal or Reception at Aintree or donate funds for the charity to purchase toiletries.”
