The Labour MP for Sefton Central Bill Esterson has been elected as the chair of the influential Energy Security and Net Zero Select Committee.

Bill is well known to DIB members through his work as shadow business minister and shadow roads minister in recent years.

Downtown in Business boss Frank McKenna commented:

“I was surprised Bill didn’t get a ministerial role in the new Labour government. However, this new position enables him to make a huge contribution to the most important of policy areas – energy and net zero. I am sure that Bill will continue to engage with the business community, which will, of course, have a massive role to play in delivering the governments green agenda ambitions.”
