Jo Phillips, Political Commentator and Former Advisor to Paddy Ashdown, to Join Downtown in Business Leaders Lunch

On Tuesday 17th September, Downtown in Business will host an exclusive Leaders Lunch event in Birmingham, featuring prominent political commentator Jo Phillips.

With a distinguished career that spans politics, public affairs, and media, Jo brings a wealth of experience and insight to Downtown’s latest Leaders Lunch event, where she will join other influential speakers to discuss key issues facing the UK today.

Jo is an award-winning journalist whose career has taken her to the heart of British politics. As Paddy Ashdown’s Press Secretary during his tenure as Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Jo played a critical role in shaping the party’s communication strategy. Her expertise extends beyond politics into public affairs, having served as Director of Communications for Bob Geldof’s media company, Ten Alps, where she was instrumental in the success of the Live8 campaign.

Jo has also worked extensively with major UK broadcasters, including producing live TV coverage of political party conferences and editing the award-winning current affairs show Sunday Service on Radio 5Live. Her contributions to political journalism are widely recognised, with regular appearances as a commentator on national and international media, as well as contributions to The Guardian, The Independent, and Total Politics.

In addition to her media work, Jo has been involved in significant public policy projects, including the Home Office’s Y Vote campaign and the London HIV Prevention Programme. She also serves as an independent member of the Windrush Day Grants Advisory Panel and consults for local authorities on community engagement and communications strategy.
