Merseyside Developer Starship Lands Fresh Financing for Luxury Apartment Scheme

Wirral-based developer Starship Developments has obtained £4.6m in new funding to finish its luxury coastal apartment scheme, Hilbre Sands, in West Kirby.

Wirral-based developer Starship Developments has obtained £4.6m in new funding to finish its luxury coastal apartment scheme, Hilbre Sands, in West Kirby.

The development is transforming the former M&Co building on The Crescent into eight two-bedroom apartments across four floors, including two penthouse units measuring 1,111 sq ft and 1,151 sq ft. Each apartment will benefit from panoramic views across the Dee Estuary, Hilbre Island, and Sandlea Park.

Although Starship is best known for its factory-built modular housing projects, Hilbre Sands is being delivered through a hybrid approach that combines steel-frame construction with traditional building methods.

The financing package, which refinances the nearly completed scheme, was provided by Sancus Lending. Advisory support came from Cowgills’ property finance team, which has worked with Starship on multiple funding solutions in recent years.

Dave Dargan, chief executive of Starship Developments, said:
“This marks a significant milestone for us. Working with Cowgills and Sancus has enabled us to concentrate on delivering high-quality coastal homes. We believe Hilbre Sands sets a new benchmark for apartment living in Wirral, and the backing we’ve received has been essential in achieving both our vision and the expectations of future residents.”

The apartments have been designed with open-plan layouts, floor-to-ceiling windows, and private outdoor terraces. Frameless glass balconies wrap around the terraces, while large aluminium windows in a subtle bronze finish frame views over the Marine Lake.

David Rainford, property finance director at Cowgills, commented:
“We’ve supported Starship for several years as they’ve navigated an increasingly challenging funding market. Securing the right facility for Hilbre Sands is a fantastic outcome, providing the time and flexibility needed to complete the project, launch it to market, and maximise sales.”

Andrew Charnley, managing director at Sancus Lending, added:
“Hilbre Sands is exactly the type of high-quality, design-led project we want to fund. Starship’s design vision, combined with Cowgills’ financial expertise, makes this scheme well positioned for success.”

Founded through the merger and acquisition of several property and construction businesses, Starship Developments is headquartered at Birkenhead Docklands. The company has built a strong reputation for producing modern modular homes using MMC (Modern Methods of Construction) while also undertaking bespoke developments such as Hilbre Sands.

The scheme is now entering its final stages of construction, with Starship confident it will set a new standard for residential living on the Wirral coastline.
