Birmingham Airport (BHX) ended 2025 on a high with a record month for passenger traffic in December. 943,889 passengers travelled through the airport in December 2025 – a 6.6% increase compared to the same period last year. The milestone month culminates a record-breaking year for passenger traffic at Birmingham Airport, which saw 13,654,108 passengers travel through during 2025, the highest figure recorded in a single year.
The milestone, which was the tenth record month for the regional transport hub in 2025, was supported by the festive season, as well as the launch of new routes to destinations including Grenoble, Suceava and Salzburg.
This record growth coincided with Birmingham Airport being named the best medium-sized UK airport for leisure travel at the British Travel Awards 2025 last month in recognition of recent ongoing work to transform the passenger experience. Awarded by public vote, the achievement solidifies BHX’s status as one of the best regional airports in the UK recognising excellent customer service and an attractive route network that directly connects the Midlands to over 120 destinations around the world.
2025 saw a variety of exciting developments at Birmingham Airport including the expansion of its next generation security passenger screening areas, new baggage facilities and the expansion of World Duty Free and the opening of the first ever Popeyes UK airport restaurant The airport also announced its £300 million investment plan over the next four years, enabling responsible growth and the delivery of essential upgrade projects.
Al Titterington, Terminal Operations Director of Birmingham Airport said:
“We’re delighted to have ended the year on a high with yet another record month in December for passenger volumes, with more customers choosing to travel through Birmingham Airport. This milestone solidifies 2025 as our busiest year on record and is illustrative of our ongoing expansion and investment into improving our terminal facilities to effectively facilitate future growth.
“This year, we will be looking to accelerate this growth further with the publication of our new Masterplan which will set our long-term vision to 2041, as well as the continued delivery of our largest ever capital investment plan.”
