Can Andy Burnham’s devolution drive kick-start a new era of regeneration and economic growth across the UK?

That is one of the key questions that will be explored at Talking ’Bout Regeneration: Placemaking, Politics and Investment, Downtown in Business’ flagship regeneration conference, taking place on Wednesday 23rd September at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Liverpool.

With devolution moving firmly to the centre of the national agenda, alongside ambitious housing targets, planning reform and major infrastructure investment, the need for collaboration between business, government and civic leaders has never been greater.

Across the UK, regions are being given greater responsibility for shaping their own economic futures. But with increased powers comes a series of important questions around how we unlock investment, deliver much-needed housing, create thriving communities and ensure regeneration benefits local economies.

Talking ’Bout Regeneration 2026 will bring together some of the leading voices from across politics, business, property and economic development to debate what the future of regeneration should look like.

The first confirmed speakers include:

  • Chris Oglesby – CEO, Bruntwood
  • Naomi Smith FCMA – CEO, Best for Britain
  • Lady Lucy French OBE – CEO, Fleet Street Quarter BID
  • Stephen Young – CEO, Salford City Council
  • Councillor Liam Robinson – Leader, Liverpool City Council
  • Kevin Craig – Executive Chair, PLMR
  • Colin Sinclair – CEO, Knowledge Quarter Liverpool (KQ Liverpool)
  • Mike Emmerich – Founding Partner, Metro Dynamics

Further high-profile speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.

This will not be a conference of comfortable consensus. Instead, Talking ’Bout Regeneration will challenge delegates to examine some of the biggest issues facing the UK’s future growth agenda.

Key questions will include:

  • Can devolution genuinely unlock new economic growth across the regions?
  • How do we build the homes Britain needs while creating places where people genuinely want to live, work and invest?
  • What should the respective roles of government, business and communities be in delivering successful regeneration?
  • Where will future investment come from, and what changes are needed to make the UK more attractive for investors?

From major city-centre developments to neighbourhood renewal, infrastructure delivery and the future of regional economies, the conference will provide a platform for honest debate and meaningful conversations about the challenges and opportunities ahead.

For businesses and organisations working across regeneration, property, planning, investment, infrastructure, public affairs, local government and economic development, this is an event not to be missed.

Talking ’Bout Regeneration: Placemaking, Politics and Investment takes place on Wednesday 23rd September at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Liverpool.
