Culture remains ‘Rocket Fuel’ for Liverpool Success

Investment in culture and the visitor economy must continue to be seen as the ‘rocket fuel for regeneration’ if the next ten years is to be as successful as the last ten for Liverpool, according to a panel of experts who addressed a special Downtown in Business Breakfast Forum this week.

The ‘What Next for the Visitor Economy’ saw fifty business leaders from the city come together to hear from Head of Culture Liverpool Claire McColgan, Liverpool Vision boss Max Steinberg, the Chief Executive of the Royal Albert Dock Liverpool and the head of Marketing Liverpool Chris Brown.

Steinberg told the audience:

“Since the European Capital of Culture year a decade ago, Liverpool has been transformed, both in terms of its regeneration and its reputation. However, if that success is to continue, we must find ways of continuing to fund cultural activity, attract big events, and continue our growth momentum in the area of the visitor economy.”

There was general agreement that a positive way of attracting the investment needed to support quality marketing and events activity would be through a city-wide Business Improvement District, as proposed by Downtown in Business.

A full report on this event will be featured on the Downtown TV Channel next week.

A HUGE THANKS TO THE SUPERB SILK RD RESTAURANT FOR HOSTING THIS EVENT
