On Sunday 21st April 2024, Downtown’s Chris McKenna took part in the London Marathon completing it in an impressive time of 3:06:22. This was his fifth marathon so something that isn’t alien to him but this year he has set himself various challengers to raise money for Paper Cup Project.
Paper Cup Project is a Liverpool charity which supports people experiencing homelessness. In February 2022 they opened Paper Cup Coffee, a coffee shop in Liverpool city centre on Queen Square, which offers a space where homeless people are welcome to come and have some food and a hot drink which customers can pay forward. They also help with clothes, and work alongside services to support our customers.
Chris added ‘I am quite a keen runner, so I thought doing just a marathon might have been a bit of a cop out so I wanted to push the boundaries this year. I have already taken part in the Liverpool ½ Marathon in March, completed London on Sunday and have a further 2 half marathons and a 10k race booked for later this year. I will also be completing the 4x4x48 challenge which entails running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours’
‘Unfortunately, the work Paper Cup Project do is now needed more than ever, so I am asking people to donate anything they can to support the charity. The goal is £15,000 so please dig deep and spread the word’
